Theatre De Stoep in Spijkenisse, Netherland is a contemporary cultural building and a key element of the town’s urban redevelopment. Designed by the Dutch firm UNStudio under the direction of Ben van Berkel, it was completed in 2014 as a replacement for an earlier theatre of the same name. The project originated from an architectural competition, from which UNStudio’s proposal was selected.

The building reflects a contemporary architectural approach in which form is derived from function. Its sculptural composition results from the arrangement of the two auditoria and the central foyer, creating a compact yet dynamic volume. The façade combines perforated aluminium panels with generous glazing at ground level, establishing a connection between interior activity and the surrounding public space.

Organised around a central vertical foyer, the theatre emphasizes movement, visibility, and social interaction. As part of the transformation of Spijkenisse’s centre, it functions both as a performance venue and as an architectural landmark within the urban context.
