The Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundeskunsthalle) in Bonn is a prominent institution for art, culture, and science, hosting changing exhibitions, lectures, performances, and work- shops that span historical, contemporary, and global topics. Its goal is to make cultural and scientific knowledge accessible to a wide audience.

The hall was designed by Gustav Peichl, whose proposal won an architectural competition in the mid‑1980s. A defining feature of the building is its three sculptural light cones, which rise above the roofline and have become an iconic element of Bonn’s skyline.

Although the idea for the institution dates back to 1949, construction officially began with the cornerstone laid by Chancellor Helmut Kohl on 17 October 1989, and the hall was opened on 17 June 1992. Situated on Bonn’s Museumsmeile, it has helped shape the city’s cultural identity, attracting visitors from across Germany and abroad, and establishing Bonn as a centre for high-level temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
